The Empty Stocking Fund is in its 88th year of existence providing funds for local organizations in the Province of B.C. This makes it one of the longest running fundraising groups in North America!
Each year, fundraising events are conducted during B.C Lions football games, Vancouver Giants and Canucks hockey games, and other events during the moths of November and December.
The money raised is then distributed to Christmas Bureaus, Salvation Army depots, and other community associations that provide hampers and toys at Christmas in their communities. Each year, the Province newspaper hosts a reception at the Pan Pacific where the cheques are handed out to the recipients. On Tuesday November 7th this year, The Empty Stocking Fund gave out $440,000.00 to the groups in attendance.
Co-coordinator Jim McGregor and volunteer Leigh Castron attended on behalf of the Langley Christmas Bureau and received a cheque in the amount of $20,583.00 for our Bureau this year! It was truly amazing to hear the history of the Fund and see the dedication of the Province staff and meet representatives from the sports teams.
By continuing to support charities such as the Empty Stocking fund, you continue to support your local Christmas Bureau.
